often times, i’ll get questions or concerns rega

often times, i’ll get questions or concerns regarding normal infant behavior but people think it’s all related to how the baby is feeding.

don’t get me wrong, in some instances, we do need to evaluate the feedings to see if they could be the “culprit” of how your baby is functioning. so trust your gut if you feel like something is “off”, GET HELP ASAP!

but often times, it is truly just a baby being a baby. they eat A LOT and that makes sense because their stomachs are so tiny. they don’t sleep for a very long time. and that also makes sense because they likely wake up because they’re hungry (or uncomfy or tons of other things but i’m not a sleep expert 🤪). and they like to be held because being held is amazing when you’re in need of comfort and regulation but also because they’re babies haha.

all i’m saying is that before you decide that something is wrong with your parenting or your baby, consider them to be tiny little humans with their own newly forming functions, just trying to make it in our fast paced world.
now i know this insight won’t change your sleepless nights but hopefully it helps you understand them a little more!

i’m a habit stacking girly for time sake but wow i’ve come to love it for almost every aspect of life.

habit stacking or habit pairing is when you pair things for efficiency and to make one habit start to feel better or more routine.

think: going for a walk and listening to an audiobook. you love audiobooks but not the walk. so pairing them can also make the routine more normal and make you feel better about whatever you didn’t like as much. just by pairing it.

honestly, don’t quote me, but it’s like pavlovian or whatever.

ANYWAYS, sometimes doing feeding things for baby can feel mundane. it’s okay to admit that! and you’re def not the only one that feels that way.

but let’s try to incorporate more positive things to our feeding routines in order to keep the positive vibes flowing.

i say it all the time but i love exclusive pumping. i love that parents have this as an option for infant feeding. but with something so new and revolutionary, there’s going to be some possible miscommunication and lack of mainstream information. i’m partnering up with @drbrowns to highlight some of the common exclusive pumping MYTHS and give a little more insight on what’s actually true.

1) you can definitely start exclusive pumping from day one. there are some specifics to cover if that’s your plan but working with a lactation consultant or doing some research prior to delivery will help immensely! it’s definitely possible though.

2) if your body is able, you can definitely sustain a full milk supply when EP! so please don’t think that it’s impossible. with the right pump, support, and education, you can definitely do it!!

3) some people think it’s one or the other. but always remember, feedings are SO flexible. you could exclusively pump for however long you want and if you change your mind on a random tuesday and decide you want to try nursing, try it! if it doesn’t feel easy to transition into that, get some lactation help and then try! it’s definitely possible though!

honestly, i’m going to poll this because in the several years that i’ve been doing this job, i’ve always had to recommend a different flange size. our bodies are all so different. there should definitely be customizable options and education given on HOW to size for flanges as well.

i say it all the time but hands on pumping is one of the best things you can do to increase your milk output while pumping.

you may be wondering HOW to get hands on when you pump. and it’s as simple as doing massage and compressions during the pumping session! (don’t overthink it 😘)

imagine yourself squeezing literally anything to get a little extra out. it’s basically the same thing but with your breasts, you’ll want to be a lot more gentle.

have you gotten hands on while pumping or even during nursing sessions?!

as stated at the end of the video, this is a kind of vague list of things that can possibly be causing a decrease in your milk supply! it’s always worth investigating more when it comes down to it. a milk supply decrease can be super obvious or super complex to pinpoint the cause. work with someone that help you if it seems like things aren’t adding up for you! #milksupply #lactationsupport #lactationconsultant
